Cornerstone Church held a tailgating party and a special service Sunday so that the excitement of the big game wouldn’t keep fans from the pews. “Every time we come together it ought to be a Super Bowl,” said Senior Pastor Bill Godair.
Members had the chance to ditch their Sunday best for sports jerseys.
One young NBA fan hopes wearing his jersey to church will help bring his team some divine intervention. “For the Cavaliers to make it to the playoffs, hopefully,” said Chris Sloan, a Cleveland Cavs fan. The message Godair is trying to send goes deeper than that, however.
“The greatest team that’s ever been formed was the team that Christ formed when he chose 12 men,” he said.
Godair hopes to encourage his congregation, especially its youth, to always play fair in the game of life – a message that’s loud and clear for Dallas Cowboys fan Harrison Henley. “You have to have faith in your team,” he said. “You have to support it, you have to support your team, you have to keep on rooting for them and everything.” Godair hopes his message will resonate with fans and his congregation even after the Super Bowl is over.
